The Board of Directors of the Binational Fulbright Commission in Jordan is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Issam Khoury as the new Executive Director, as of May 27, 2020. Dr. Khoury succeeds Founding Director Alain McNamara, who has led the Fulbright Commission in Jordan since its establishment in 1994, and remains an advisor for the Commission during this transitional period; he will retire in June.
Dr. Issam Khoury is a Jordanian-American educator who has worked in the US, Europe,Middle East, and India. He comes to the Fulbright Commission from India where he served as Dean of the college of liberal education at a private university near New Delhi. In that capacity, he transformed the curriculum, worked with faculty, staff and students to improve the teaching and learning processes, and brought in global perspectives throughout the college curriculum. Prior to moving to India, he served as a Program Manager with the Arab Council for the Social Sciences in Beirut, Lebanon, working to increase the capacity of Arab social science researchers across the region through trainings and grants.
He also worked with a London-based international NGO in grant making for the Middle East, and for six years, he lived in Oman and the UAE, where he headed academic and study abroad programs, working closely with embassies and universities to implement quality programs for their students, staff, and diplomats. Dr. Khoury earned his BA in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, his MA in Middle Eastern Studies from Ohio State University, and a Master of International Affairs (MIA) and PhD in Higher Education and International Education from Pennsylvania State University.

As we bid a fond farewell to Alain McNamara, we warmly welcome Dr. Khoury to the Fulbright Commission. We look forward to working with Dr. Khoury as we continue the great work of the Commission to promote academic and cultural exchange between Jordanians and Americans.
